Abstract
Flap surgery is the commonest procedure in plastic surgery and is the essence of the discipline. Part science, part art, success depends on an understanding of soft tissue’s blood supply, mobility, a keen sense for form and function, and, not least, surgical experience. The principles enunciated here form the fluid and creative foundations of plastic surgery practice. This chapter covers the historical evolutions and basics of clinical practice using flap surgery.
