Abstract
Management of the cancer patient has undergone a revolution over the last 40 years and continues to evolve. Multidisciplinary care, utilizing various combinations of available treatment modalities, such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, is now widely accepted and is standard of care. Treatment plans are usually determined through multidisciplinary meetings involving all treating clinicians, and imaging plays an essential role in staging patients, facilitating stratification of patients, and personalization of cancer care. Advances in molecular biology and availability of “omic” information is also significantly impacting management of cancer cases, influencing type and timing of treatment, as well as generating novel therapies. This is resulting in increased tailoring of management for specific patients and personalization of care.
