Abstract
Evidence alone is insufficient to change health-compromising behaviours. Therefore, effective Knowledge Translation (KT) is needed to maximise the uptake of evidence into practice through facilitating key evidence to be delivered as a preventive measure, identifying the most important phases of women’s lives when that evidence will influence decision-making, and determining the most effective messaging. This chapter outlines the KT process and how it can be used to ensure key messages are delivered to targeted audiences efficiently and effectively at the most relevant time in women’s lives. This includes an overview of the well-evidenced knowledge-to-action framework and three common processes within most KT frameworks: understanding the need, selecting, and trialling appropriate mechanisms for change and evaluating effectiveness. Following this, the chapter discusses how KT can be applied across women’s life course. This includes evidence that shows the necessity to consider differing biological and social influences at key stages throughout women’s lives and how this knowledge informs KT approaches that enable more appropriate mechanisms of change to be devised and implemented.
